MÉRIDA, Yucatán.— This Monday, the morning conference of the mayor of Merida, Cecilia Patron Laviadain which he announced that Yucatan Group donated seven containers to special waste of the Clean Merida program.
It was reported that, with these new containers, there are now 23 in total. The previous ones were also donations made by companies such as Pamplona (1), Sana (4) and Servilimpia (9), in addition to two granted by the Chamber of the Construction Industry.
During the delivery of the donations from Grupo Yucatán, the mayor of Mérida reported that, thanks to the Mérida Clean program, they have been collected 1,525 tons of waste in 223 points visited and with 23 containers that are cleaned up to twice a day, depending on the amount of garbage deposited.
Clean Merida Program
Cecilia Patron recalled that the Clean Merida program arose when detecting numerous parts of the city where people throw garbage indiscriminately. He explained that these places are not collection sites and reiterated that waste must be exclusively household or commercial.
The mayor also explained the mechanics of operation of the containers, which remain for 15 days in a neighborhood, subdivision or police station so that residents can deposit their special solid waste, those objects that they do not know how to get rid of, such as refrigerators, washing machines, stoves, microwave ovens, irons, computers, cell phones, televisions, sound equipment, computer equipment, furniture, mattresses, tires metal, Styrofoam, wooden pallets, polyethylene films, electrical or electronic tools, electronic toys or light bulbs. All these items can be placed in the containers.
Citizen participation
For its part, Juan Manuel Ponce Diazbusinessman and representative of Grupo Yucatánmentioned that the safety and cleanliness of a city depend on both society and the government. “Society can contribute by applying the four Rs: reduce, reuse, recycle and recover. It sounds simple, something that we all repeat, but that we do not do on a daily basis,” he expressed.
“We want to join these two responsibilities to become a third agent of change, one that also provides the means to help the population keep this city clean. It is our way of doing our bit as companies,” said Ponce Díaz.
Festival of the Souls
Finally, the mayor recalled that the Festival of the Souls It started last Saturday with various activities. He announced that tonight the souls dairy; tomorrow the Pixan Peek in La Plancha Park; on the 29th, the roll of the souls; the expected Paseo de las Ánimas will be on Friday, October 31and on Saturday, November 1, the Catrinas Walk.
