After a seemingly endless slew of bombshells since returning to EastEnders, Zoe Slater (Michelle Ryan) has found herself consistently surrounded by carnage of her own creation, with mum Kat Moon (Jessie Wallace) desperate to help her daughter.
For every step forward she makes, however, Kat seems to be forced two steps back, with Zoe creating trouble everywhere she goes.
With her latest lie exposed and everybody now aware that Zoe constructed the story of Dennis Rickman (Nigel Harman) being the father of her son in order to access Sharon Watts’ (Letitia Dean) money to fund the search, Zoe finds herself back at square one and is seemingly unravelling at an alarming rate.
With Kat at the end of her tether, she’s shaken when Zoe finds a smashed photograph of the two of them. Accusing Kat of doing the deed, Zoe is confused when Kat denies any knowledge.
Things get progressively worse for the Slater clan when Alfie finds a mysterious VHS tape from 80’s. While Kat doesn’t want to play the tape in case it further upsets Zoe, Zoe herself is on a rampage, trying to discover who destroyed her photograph as she’s mired in paranoia.
Returning to the pub, she finds the tape playing, Kat ends up sitting down with both Zoe and her son, Tommy Moon (Sonny Kendall), with the trio watching the contents of the tape.
Anthony Trueman (Nicholas Bailey), meanwhile, is worried about Zoe, and lets Kat know just how concerned he’s becoming in the face of her erratic behaviour.
In the aftermath of the tapes contents, Kat remains committed to supporting Zoe, who spirals further when it becomes apparent the cat she’s recently adopted has gone missing.
As Anthony helps Zoe search for the cat, Kat and Alfie are shaken to the core to discover somebody has defaced their family photographs.
With Kat determining to sell her shares of the limo business to Harvey Monroe (Ross Boatman) in order to help fund the search for her grandson, Alfie is plagued with doubt and, confronting Zoe about the photos, learns that she herself destroyed them.
When she receives a text from a mystery number, informing her that they have her cat, Zoe pleads with Kat and Alfie to believe her that this isn’t another one of her games. Finally sharing Anthony’s concerns about Zoe’s mental health, she organises a one-to-one with him, though Zoe is unimpressed. Later at the Vic, she causes yet another worrying scene…
