No information on damage to the building that burned in Cuauhtémoc due to an explosion

After the explosion that occurred on October 24 in a restaurant in the Tabacalera neighborhood, in the Cuauhtémoc mayor’s office, the place remains cordoned off and without personnel working to remove the debris.

In a tour of the place, it was found that the affected property has a ground floor and five levels, there is no work from the authorities or the owners of the place that can provide information about when the repair work will begin.

When asking one of the street merchants in the area, he said that the elements of the Secretariat of Citizen Security (SSC) carry out continuous patrols to prevent objects or utensils from being stolen from the place known as La Soldadera, where the mishap originated.

 

He commented that during the weekend, personnel from the Cuauhtémoc mayor’s office and the Civil Protection of the Government of Mexico City monitored the place to verify the conditions of the building.

On October 24, the explosion occurred on Plaza de la República avenue and Alcázar street, Tabacalera neighborhood, next to the Monument to the Revolution.

Since then, they have placed yellow tapes with the legend of danger, which prevent access to the ground floor and the building; However, many passersby pass by the scene and stop to look at what happened due to the accident.

During the emergency, surrounding streets were temporarily closed to facilitate rescue and cooling efforts. The Cuauhtémoc mayor’s office also collaborated with water pipes and operational personnel to guarantee security in the area.

According to the Civil Protection Directorate of the district, the incident in the Tabacalera neighborhood could have been caused by a failure in a gas heater, but so far the final reports of the expert investigation have not been given.
