O socialist general secretary demanded today a “public repair” of the Minister of the Presidency after “unacceptable statements” about the PSreferring to the accusations by Leitão Amaro that the party wants to “finish the work of demographic and political reengineering”.
José Luís Carneiro was speaking at the session taking place tonight at FAUL do PS on the State Budget for 2026 (OE2026), having started with two notes on current issues, the first of which is criticism of the “messages of hate” spread by recent posters of André Ventura in his presidential campaign.
“And I would also like to leave another message, this one addressed to the Minister of the Presidency, Leitão Amaro who made statements in recent days regarding the Nationality Law that are unacceptable statements”, he condemned.
At issue, according to the socialist leader, is the fact that the Minister of the Presidency said “that the PS would be promoting social re-engineering based on immigration, with a view to obtaining political ends”.
“It is an absolutely unacceptable statement, which demands a public repair from one of the most important Ministers in the Government’s political architecture, he demanded.
On Friday, the Minister of the Presidency accused the PS of “wanting to repeat the mistake made in immigration policy” in the past and, with the objections to the nationality law, wanting to “finish the work of demographic and political reengineering” of the country.
António Leitão Amaro was questioned at the press conference regarding the weekly meeting of the Council of Ministers about the expectation of approval of the nationality law only with Chega, after the PS lamented the lack of agreement with the benches that support the PSD/CDS-PP Government.
“What seems to be leading and commanding the PS’s position is a desire to repeat mistake made in immigration policy”, he began by criticizing.
Minister Leitão Amaro said that socialist executives “facilitated the entry of around one million people” and now the PS wants to “facilitate the entry and attribution of nationality to one million people”.
“It seems, on several occasions, that the PS wants to finish the work of demographic reengineering and political reengineering of the country that it launched with the expression of interest”, he accused.
