People are defending Selena Gomez online after viral comments criticising the singer’s face in her new music video.
The 33-year-old released her new track In The Dark last week, which was originally recorded in 2018 for her lost album Seven Heavens. She shared the music video on YouTube and people quickly began commenting mean things about her appearance, because her face looks quite different.
Twitter has been flooded with negative posts about the way she looks, with many speculating the singer has had some cosmetic work done. After people online began asking “what happened” to Selena’s face and rudely saying she looks “terrible,” people have rushed to defend the singer.

One person wrote: “Selena’s always been such an easy target for no reason, people project so much onto her. it’s sad how the internet pushes even the most confident women to feel insecure.”
“All this hate over her looking wrong in a video with a weird lighting, hairstyle while she looks gorgeous everyday. This world is way too harsh on female celebs and beauty standards are way too much. I don’t think anyone should have to deal with this. The fact that this is happening is wrong,” someone else said.
Grimes has also publicly defended Selena, writing on Twitter: “I’ve been in the internet for like 48 hours and despite minor benefits I might have to leave. Watched this Selena Gomez video, besides a few weird derp shots that ppl were able to clip and super misrepresent how she looks she looks extremely beautiful, is prob one of the most beautiful girls.”
“Imagine what it would feel like if people talked about you this way. Try to imagine the mental fortitude she presumably has. How do we not utterly morally castigate someone who has a post like this blows up and chooses to keep the clout at the expense of everybody’s mental health. How do u think little girls feel reading stuff like this about another woman?”
She said it should never be okay to do “high school level bullying” and claimed that accounts should be suspended for “body shaming en masse”.
