Chiefs legend not sold on co-coaches Kaze and Youssef

Kaizer Chiefs sealed a 3–1 win over AS Simba at Dobsonville on Sunday to qualify for the CAF Confederation Cup group stages, but former star Robson Muchichwa wasn’t entirely impressed with what he saw on the grass.

The former left-back has praised the attacking display, noting that Amakhosi scored three goals and showed they are actively addressing past scoring problems.

ROBSON MUCHICHWA UNSURE OF CO-COACHES CEDRIC KAZE AND KHALIL BEN YOUSSEF

According to Muchichwa, the result was sealed, but the football did not live up to his expectations.

“It’s great to have won, but as we enter the group stages,” Muchichwa told Kick Off. “I think the team needs to improve significantly.”

Muchichwa further pointed out that the cup is all about advancing, not just playing good football, and that Amakhosi must elevate their performance now that they’ve reached the group stages.

The former Zimbabwean international also highlighted the unpredictable nature of cup competitions, noting that confidence grows with every win and that teams can lift trophies even if their league form is shaky. While he hopes Kaizer Chiefs can go all the way, he admitted that the squad as it stands might not yet be strong enough to win the tournament outright.

Muchichwa’s main concern is the coaching setup. He believes co-coaches Cedric Kaze and Khalil Ben Youssef sometimes appear lost and lack the experience needed to lead a big club like Amakhosi. He said: “I believe we still need a more experienced head coach. Sometimes, the current coaches at Kaizer Chiefs seem lost. It often appears they lack the experience needed to coach a big club like Kaizer Chiefs. We want consistent performance and don’t want to see them struggling,” he concluded.
