The Judiciary Police (PJ) arrested four people for fraud with bank cards, who allegedly appropriated more than half a million euros and who will also be present for the first judicial interrogation to apply coercive measures.
“Between 2023 and 2024, the four detainees, three men and one woman, aged between 24 and 46, obtained bank card data through “skimming” techniques, that is, through the interception and direct reading of data from the original bank cards (foreign cards) which they subsequently used in automatic payment terminals (TPA) contracted by companies established in national territory and by them controlled”, explained the PJ in a statement.
According to information released by the PJ, the ‘Carta Blanca’ operation, launched by the National Unit to Combat Cybercrime and Technological Crime (UNC3T), took place in Lisbon, Montijo and Torres Vedras and led to the arrest of the four suspects, “indicted for the crimes of counterfeiting cards or other payment devices, computer forgery, forgery of documents and money laundering”.
As part of the operation, eight home and non-home search warrants were executed.
The detainees will be heard during judicial interrogation at the Sintra Criminal Instruction Court.
