One of the main rules of taking a cruise is boarding the ship on time to avoid getting deserted. But Coral Expeditions faces turmoil as an 80-year-old passenger was reported missing and later died after failing to board the cruise ship in Australia.
Following a Coral Expeditions’ trip to the remote location of Lizard Island in the Great Barrier Reef, the unnamed woman was reported missing after she failed to board the cruise. On Sunday, Oct. 26, the 80-year-old’s body was discovered.
According to reports by news.com.au, the Queensland Police are investigating the incident as a “sudden and non-suspicious death of a missing woman in her 80s.”
Details suggest she was hiking the Cook’s Look peak when she stopped to rest. Meanwhile, the rest of the group she was travelling with had continued without her. They later boarded the Coral Expeditions ship without realizing she wasn’t in the group.
It’s reported that the 80-year-old could have possibly fallen down a cliff and it led to her death.
“Coral Expeditions can confirm the tragic death of a passenger on the Coral Adventurer during an excursion to Lizard Island in Queensland,” said CEO of Coral Expeditions Mark Fifield.
“On Saturday, 25 October, the crew notified authorities that a woman was missing, and a search and rescue operation was launched on land and sea,” he added.
“Following the operation, Coral Expeditions was notified by Queensland Police that the woman had been found deceased on Lizard Island.”
Fifield also offered their condolences to the woman’s family and full support as an investigation into the incident continues. He reveals the Coral team has been in contact with her family and is working closely with the Queensland Police.
