Presented as an AI encyclopedia “important for civilization”according to the owner of Tesla, Grokipedia was created to compete with Wikipedia, which is written and edited by volunteers. Contrary to this, the Grokipedia has no human authors. The new encyclopedia’s website states that its contents are “verified” byGrokthe AI chatbot also developed by Musk.
According to the businessman, the idea was suggested by David Sacksresponsible in the Trump government for the areas of artificial intelligence and cryptocurrencies.
Musk tem repeatedly attacked Wikipedia for citing reports from the New York Times and from NPR. The billionaire seeks encourage people to trust X — the former Twitter, which he owns — and which has been programmed to favor conservative and far-right voices, including his own opinions.
Grokipedia articles often reflect conservative arguments. The text about January 6th insurrection in Capitolfor example, mentions “widespread allegations of voting irregularities” — a lie propagated by Donald Trump and his allies to delegitimize Joe Biden’s 2020 victory — and minimizes Trump’s role in inciting the riot.
Some journalists have already accused Grokipedia of disseminating inaccurate information, such as the claim that pornography worsened the AIDS epidemic.
