Fake delivery man, knows the new modus operandi to rob homes

In recent days, the Secretariat of Citizen Security of Mexico City (SSC) reported on the detection of a new method of theft, in which criminals obtain the necessary data to access a home without being discovered or surprised by an inhabitant.

According to information shared by the public agency, this technique, known as “false delivery man”, It is a new modus operandi in which criminals pretend to be delivery people for some service app of shipments to identify if there is anyone in the house without raising suspicions.

To do this, the thieves first knock on the door pretending that they are delivering food or another product; Their main distractor is to directly ring the doorbell and act normally and kindly while they wait for your reaction.

If they do not receive a response or confirm that the place is empty, they quickly call their accomplices and take the opportunity to force the door and enter the home.taking valuables and money before escaping.

For this reason, the authorities warn the population and urge them to take the necessary measures to avoid being a victim of these groups of criminals.

Among the precautionary measures that the government recommends implementing to prevent falling into this trap are the following:

• Use a peephole or camera before opening.
• Ask for identification and order number.
• Make noise or turn on the lights; Your presence will scare them away.
• Reinforce doors, bars and windows, even if you are inside.
• Use your neighborhood groups to alert suspicious people.
• If you go out for a long time, make sure doors and windows are well reinforced.

Furthermore, all citizens are invited to report any suspicious situation to the emergency number 911 or contact law enforcement through the app My Police.
