On Tuesday afternoon, at La Plancha Park, Merida families gathered in the company of their pets to remember those furry ones who are no longer on Earth.
The event included a visit from Mayor Cecilia Patrón Laviada, who lived with the dogs of the “adoption playpen”, space that Environment and Animal Welfare Unit took place so that citizens could meet the dogs waiting for a home.
Raúl Escalante, director of said unit, mentioned that in this edition a large altar was installed where more than two thousand people sent photographs of their deceased pets. He highlighted that there was participation from different parts of the Republic, since many wanted their pet to have a place on this altar.
The official recalled that in the month of November a sterilization campaign focused on street dogs, with the goal of serving at least 300 animals. Likewise, he invited citizens to train and join this project by helping to capture stray dogs.
It was also reported that the “adoption corralito” presented 12 puppiesamong them one that was abandoned by its owners when they discovered that had screwworm in one of his little eyes.
Several associations dedicated to the rescue of dogs and cats participated in the event, who took advantage of the occasion to raise funds to support their shelters.
