The dishonorable candidate – Expresso

It was just after eight-thirty last Friday night, when the deputy leader of the Chega party entered the SIC building to be interviewed on Jornal da Noite, announcing, without wasting time, what he was coming for – putting us in order! A mission that feels like a design to transform the regime and the system.

Straighten the country, suffering from a epidemic of corruption, banditry, impunitythis is the mission proposed by the candidate for the highest judiciary in the Nation. To achieve this, he argues, the Head of State must be the leader of the country; the guide that will put the country in the right gear.

His 4th Republic, never explained, but abundantly illustrated, will be achieved through changes in the Constitution, in the execution of justice, in the way public institutions are perceived.

If the changes he intends to see in the Constitution are not made explicit, his formula for executing justice is clear: the President must intervene with the Courts, demanding, from Belém, the application of sentences to the accused, thus safeguarding the conscience and peace of mind of those he designates as “ordinary citizens”.

To the obvious question whether your candidacy is for Belém or São Bento, the answer is linear- candidate to put the country in order. If you plan to use your party as an armed wing to lead the State from Belém, we don’t know why you don’t respond, but we understand that the position is less important than the aim of reaching a seat from which you can straighten out the country.

This bewildered and disorderly country in which the State and its institutions are a “total mess”, stripped of their integrity and morals, imposing on the President the definition of the character of the Republic. The nature of the 4th Republic, however, is not unity «this bullshit talk», but order.

An order based not on consensus, but on the will of the revolted masses that is expressed in votes for the candidate who wants to shake up the system and transform the regime. An order guaranteed by the implacability of the head of state, which does not collude with the political system and which will tell the justice system, the security forces, the police and the government how the country needs to be put in order.

A head of state who refuses to belong to everyone, but only to those who deserve it: the orderly and conscientious ordinary citizens – the othersthose exploited by the regime and the system, those who recognize in the voice of the head of state the command in ordering the country.

In this new presidential order, few more positions are needed and the Ombudsman’s Office is an institution of relative importance. Evil is identified – the foreigner, people who are not like usresponsible for chaos in health, education, housing, security. Immigrants we don’t need, but who need us.

In the 4th Republic, the President does not kneel before this and the parsimony in the use of the veto prerogative is to be used depending on the government that is in office, without us knowing whether, in this imagined republic, this presidential power can no longer be used just once. Political stability and the maintenance of parliament are not guaranteed, with the head of state reserving the power to dissolve it if corruption, impunity or betrayal of the country is identified.

This is the summary of the interview with the presidential candidate, leader of the Chega party. Everything else was demagoguery, propaganda and the use of indecent language.

Through a permanent attack on the separation of powers, this was, perhaps, the interview in which the Chega deputy revealed, without any decorum, the most radical proposal for aggression and weakening of the political system and the institutions that support and give shape to the Liberal Democracy that governs us.

A candidacy without the briefest horizon of hope, bonhomie or future! A candidacy that seeks nothing more than to divide the Portuguese; instigate resentment; torment the most fragile and hurt Freedom.

Chega’s deputy competes, with the shameless arrogance of a bully, to promote the indignity of the Republic.
