Beyond Vision, a Portuguese drone manufacturer, has sealed a 15 million euro contract to supply 300 emergency drones in the United States by 2028.
This agreement comes in the context of a broader investment, which includes the opening of a factory in the North American market in two years, with a planned investment of 50 million euros, reports the ECO.
After ending the previous year with a turnover of 2.4 million euros, the company estimates that turnover for this year will reach 20 million euros. Currently, Beyond Vision has approximately 80 employees and plans to expand to 800 workers by 2035.
Pedro Figueiredo, sales director at Beyond Vision, stated to the same media outlet that the contract aims to meet the need for rapid response in emergency situations in the USA. “An ambulance takes 20 to 30 minutes to reach the scene, while a drone can arrive in just five minutes,” he highlighted.
The drones, which have an autonomy of 40 minutes, daytime and thermal cameras, and a payload capacity of 1.5 kilograms, will be stored in charging stations that activate automatically in the event of an emergency.
Drone deliveries are scheduled to be carried out in three phases: 50 devices next year, 100 in 2027 and 150 in 2028.
In view of the expansion of the contract, the company spokesperson indicated that the initial quantity of 300 drones could increase to a thousand, depending on the market response and the proofs of concept carried out.
Founded in 2013 by Dário Pedro and Luís Miguel Campos, Beyond Vision currently employs 76 employees in Lisbon and Porto, with plans to recruit another 25 by the end of the year, mainly in areas such as aerospace, mechanical and electrical engineering.
The company exports 95% of its production, mainly to the USA, the Middle East, Brazil and Europe, with clients such as the Portuguese Navy and Army, the French and German police.
Beyond Vision is also preparing to supply 60 drones to Ukraine and is in the process of qualifying for contracts with the Japanese coast guard.
With the goal of reaching 5% of GDP in defense by 2035, several Portuguese companies, including Beyond Vision, are intensifying their investments in this sector.
