Fans of the popular 2002 film The Batman, starring Robert Pattinson, Zoe Kravitz, Colin Farrell and several other noteworthy names, received some good news earlier this year. After what felt like a painfully long delay that sparked speculation a sequel might not happen, Matt Reeves and co-writer Mattson Tomlin wrapped the script for The Batman Part II. While there’s been no shortage of hype surrounding the follow-up film to Pattinson’s debut as Batman, filming won’t officially begin until the spring of 2026. This has led to swirling rumors and questions about the cast, which Farrell was recently asked about.
Colin Farrell Addresses the Latest on ‘The Batman Part II’ Casting

Following the release of his latest film, Ballad of a Small Player, Farrell joined the Happy Sad Confused podcast with Josh Horowitz to discuss a broad range of topics. Not surprisingly, one of the topics was The Batman Part II, which led Farrell to address several noteworthy points.
Farrell told Horowitz he thinks the script is a “masterwork,” stating that he spoke to Reeves on the phone for roughly an hour after reading it. When asked about casting and whether he had any idea of potential villains to expect in The Batman Part II, Farrell admitted he had asked Reeves about it.
“He’s still trying to figure out the puzzle. He’s extraordinarily meticulous,” Farrell said.
It’s noteworthy to hear that Farrell even asked Reeves about potential casting ideas. However, it’s certainly possible that Reeves or Farrell—likely the latter—may be keeping that somewhat close to the vest currently.
Fortunately, there’s time to work through the casting, and it’s likely that Reeves and company have at least a few names in mind at this point, if they aren’t even further along than Farrell revealed.
Farrell Addresses Lengthy Delay on ‘The Batman Part II’ Script
Another area that’s been a hot-button topic, specifically for fans, is the lengthy delay before Reeves turned in the script for The Batman Part II. As previously mentioned, this led to some bold speculation about the film’s future. Regardless, Farrell echoed what we’ve heard several others involved in the project say about the topic.
In turn, he also once again hyped up how impressive the script was after reading it.
“A lot’s been made online about how long it took Matt to formulate and complete and hand in the script, and I say, ‘Matt, as long as it takes is as long as it takes.'” Farrell said. “…It’s the last thing you want to rush. He has a real appreciation for what this character and what this world mean to people. He really does. I feel that he’s aware of the somewhat burden, but mostly responsibility of bringing these characters to the screen, and boy, did he deliver.
There’s been some chatter online that filming could begin around April 2026, but that hasn’t been confirmed. However, one thing we do know is that the release date for The Batman Part II is set, and it’s primed to hit theaters on Oct. 1, 2027.
