The disagreement over the increase in fares in the State of Mexico escalated to the federal courts. The groups “No to the Edomex Tarifazo” y “Scrupulousness” They presented a third amparo before the Judiciary based in Toluca, rejecting the two-peso adjustment applied since last October 15.

The groups accuse the state government of approving the increase without making transparent the technical studies that support it, directly affecting thousands of working families.

The activists recalled that a first amparo was rejected due to formal issues and another continues in process in Nezahualcóyotl, but they insist that the legal battle will not stop.

“The Transportation Institute and the National Polytechnic carried out the supposed cost-benefit studies, but they have not been made public. We want to know how they came to the conclusion that raising the fare is fair,” said Dante Álvarez, spokesperson for the citizen movement.

The protesters argue that the measure violates the right to mobility and to public information, since the increase does not include support or discounts for students, elderly people or people with disabilities, sectors that should have differentiated rates according to the state Mobility Law. In contrast, the service, he says, remains expensive, unsafe and poor.

“It is absurd to pay more for transportation in terrible conditions. They raise the rate, but the units are still dirty, without ramps and with drivers who drive at the limit,” said Alejandra Morales, a resident of Metepec and a daily user of the Tollocan route.

According to estimates by the groups, low-income households spend up to 30% of their daily salary on transportation, which turns the increase into a direct hit to the pocket.

They also criticized the lack of comprehensive mobility projects for the Toluca Valley, an area that, despite its population density, does not have a modern mass system.
