Mexico City.- During his appearance before the capital’s Congress, as part of the gloss on the First Government Report, the Secretary of Government, César Cravioto Romero, He faced an intense day of questioning from opposition legislators, who accused him of lack of planning, urban disorder and lack of security.
In response, the official defended the policy of dialogue and citizen participation of the Clara Brugada administration, and announced the creation of the Popular Councila space for analysis and discussion where social and community organizations will be able to express the needs of Mexico City.
“Mexico City is not built with impositions, but with dialogue; it does not advance with monologues but with consensus; it does not grow with opacity but with an open and democratic government,” said Cravioto.
During his speech, which lasted almost an hour, the secretary highlighted the holding of more than 800 work tables with informal trade leaders and announced the installation, on November 10, of the Advisory Council for Commerce on Public Streetswhich will seek to start 2026 with a more orderly Historic Center and with fewer traffic.
Cravioto also stressed that the capital is preparing to host the 2026 World Cup, an event that he considered “a great showcase” to show the world the city’s organizational capacity. He assured that the neighborhoods surrounding the Azteca Stadium will receive public investment and urban improvements. “The best place to watch the World Cup will be Mexico City; so much so that even the governor of Nuevo León came to learn from us,” he said to applause.
The secretary also reported that, after the explosion of a gas pipe on the Concorde Bridge, psychological, legal and economic support is being provided to the 85 affected victims. In addition, he mentioned that more than 2,600 consultancies have been granted to citizens who are victims of dispossession, and that the corresponding cabinet has managed to recover 50 properties returned to their legitimate owners.
However, the opposition launched harsh criticism. Representative Patricia Urriza (MC) accused the government of acting “without direction or planning,” while Tania Larios (PRI) warned that the city could stand out in the World Cup “due to its organization or chaos.” Diego Garrido (PAN) denounced “anarchy in the streets and overflowing street traffic,” and claimed the lack of inclusion in decision-making.
