“Everyone in Mexico” wants to be Harfuch’s Batgirl: Deputy

The controversy began last Monday, when deputies Saiden Quiroz and Gabriela Jiménez were involved in a tense moment when they tried to stand next to Harfuch, who was giving a press conference in the Chamber of Deputies.

Mexico City, October 29 (However).- Jessica Leave Quirozpresident of the Security Commission of the Chamber of DeputiesI assure this Wednesday that all the women in Mexico They would like to be “batgirls” of the Secretary of Security and Citizen Protection Omar García Harfucha nickname with which she was nicknamed yesterday along with the legislator Gabriela Jiménez by Ricardo Monreal Ávilaand which has been the subject of criticism on social networks.

“Many, I think all [las mujeres] in Mexico [serían ‘batichicas’]No? As I read in the comments [en redes sociales]would like to accompany our Secretary [de Seguridad y Protección Ciudadana (SSPC)]and why not? in the imagination of being able to one day be there, always accompanying him to reinforce, above all, security issues… I believe that there would be millions and millions of women in Mexico who would be accompanying the Secretary,” she assured when questioned by the press about the nickname given by Monreal.

The controversy had its origins last Monday, when Saiden Quiroz, of the Labor Party (PT), and Gabriela Jiménez, of the Monrena Party, starred in a tense moment when trying to stand next to Harfuch, who was offering a press conference on the Law against extortion in the Chamber of Deputies.

In the images of the conference and in the presence of the media, it could be seen that Gabriela Jiménez, at the request of Monreal, tried to stand next to the Secretary of Security, a place that had already been occupied by the PT legislator, who did not pay attention and did not move from her place, despite the insistence of the Morenista.

Faced with criticism and rumors about a rupture within the ruling bloc, yesterday Monreal Ávila tried to get both politicians, Quiróz and Jiménez, to shake hands and laughingly nicknamed them the “batgirls” of García Harfuch, who has been named “Batman” by his followers, in reference to his results in terms of security. “‘Batgirls!’, that’s both of them,” said Monreal, laughing and hugging the legislators by the waist.

The action was once again the subject of criticism on social networks, after users pointed out that the nickname was misogynistic.

“If they want us there, especially on security issues, of ‘batgirls’, I believe that there would be millions and millions of women in Mexico who would be there accompanying the Secretary,” reiterated Jessica Saiden Quiroz.

Saiden defended her decision not to have given up her place to Jiménez, as she claimed her status as president of the Security Commission, for which it was her responsibility to be at the official’s side after his appearance before the Political Coordination Board.

“To clarify that there was an attempt there for me to give up the place that belongs to me, obviously, as president of the Security Commission, and well, that could not be, because there was a lack of space,” he argued.

“There was a mistake. We had already started the protocol, and if I had been in his place [de Gabriela Jiménez]”The truth is that I would not have moved, but not even half a centimeter, out of respect for the Secretary of Security, who was already responding to quite delicate questions,” he added.

“The president of the Energy Commission has her space when her Secretary appears; the Budget Commission, the same, and in the case of Security, I had to be there. So it is just understanding that when there are this type of events we must respect, especially when the Secretary speaks at a press conference. There should no longer be any movement, out of respect for whoever appears,” he stated.
