DE ALLENDE AND SPRINGBOKS READY FOR JAPANESE CHALLENGE
The experienced centre expects an intense, fast-paced encounter but insists South Africa’s success depends on structure, not chaos.
“We know Japan will play with pace,” De Allende said. “They’ve got a very organised attack and thrive on quick transitions. Our challenge is to stay composed and play on our terms.”
While many anticipate an open, attacking contest, De Allende highlighted the importance of maintaining rhythm under pressure. “We’ve worked hard on ensuring that we can absorb that speed,” he explained. “If we can slow them down in key moments, we’ll control the flow.”
The 33-year-old has spent several seasons in Japan’s top league and understands the growth of its players. “People underestimate how tough the Japanese league is,” he said. “Every week is fast, physical, and incredibly demanding. You can’t switch off for a second.”
DOOGZ KEEN TO FRONT UP AGAINST CLUB TEAMMATES
Facing several of his Panasonic Wild Knights teammates adds personal motivation.
“It’s always special to go up against familiar faces,” De Allende said. “I know how skilful and disciplined they are, so we’ll need to be sharp.”
He also praised Japan’s balance between flair and structure. “They’re not just playing with speed,” he noted. “They’re tactically very smart and know how to turn momentum. We’ll have to be disciplined and patient.”
De Allende emphasised that South Africa’s focus remains on refining their own standards rather than being drawn into Japan’s rhythm. “We can’t get caught in their tempo,” he said. “It’s about sticking to our plan, executing accurately, and staying composed under pressure.”
With a demanding tour ahead, including Tests against Europe’s strongest sides, De Allende urged consistency and focus.
“We’re not thinking about France or Ireland yet,” he said. “Our energy is on Japan. We must give them the respect they deserve.”
