Orlando Pirates legend Johnny Masegela has cautioned the club’s fans against high expectations after the Buccaneers reached their second successive semi-final of the season.
Last month, they claimed the MTN8, which was their first trophy of the season. With the Carling Knockout Cup up for grabs, fans feel this could be the year that Pirates finally get their hands on the elusive trophy.
On Tuesday, Orlando Pirates edged out Magesi FC 2-1 to reach the semi-final of the Carling KO.
Masegela has given his thoughts on his former team potentially completing a clean sweep of all trophies this season.
“At the moment, Pirates are still trying out different combinations. This is a positive sign, and it’s not a high-risk situation. They are not yet playing at their full potential,” he told KickOff.
“As for a clean sweep, I think that’s a long way off. The cups that Pirates have won so far were not guaranteed from the start.”
Orlando Pirates have been a team to beat this season
The Buccaneers went on an eight-match winning streak across all competitions before it was ended by DR Congo outfit Saint Eloi Lupopo in the CAF Champions League.
Masegela said the best fans can do is hope for a clean sweep but indicated that the players could make mistakes which could result in them losing out on one of the two remaining domestic trophies.
“Sometimes they make mistakes.
“It’s fine for us as supporters to wish for a clean sweep, but as players, they must focus on what lies ahead,” the Orlando Pirates legend concluded.
