A new update for Windows 11 released on October 28, 2025 is causing unexpected problems for users. The update KB5067036, which is intended for versions 24H2 and 25H2 of Windows 11, means that the task manager can no longer be closed properly. Instead, it remains active in the background, resulting in increased memory consumption.
The problem occurs when users try to close the task manager using the ‘X’ in the top right corner. Instead of terminating the process, it remains active and continues to use memory. When you reopen the task manager, another process is started instead of bringing the one that is already running to the foreground. This can slow down the system on computers with limited memory.
Update KB5067036 is an optional but important update as it introduces a new Start menu for Windows 11. With this update, Microsoft also wanted to fix a bug in the task manager where some apps were not grouped correctly with their processes. But now it appears that the update itself has caused new problems.
According to reports, Microsoft has not yet provided an official solution to this issue. However, users can manually kill the running Task Manager processes or use the ‘taskkill /im taskmgr.exe /f’ command in Command Prompt to close all Task Manager processes.
