Diddy Reportedly Transferred to New Prison

Sean “Diddy” Combs is getting at least one of his wishes regarding prison life fulfilled, according to a new report.

Combs has been incarcerated at Metropolitan Detention Center in Brooklyn, New York since September 2024, when he was indicted on  sex trafficking, racketeering and prostitution charges. In July, Combs was acquitted of the more serious charges, but convicted on two counts of transportation to engage in prostitution.

Post-conviction, Combs remained at Metropolitan Detention Center, but his legal team had been trying to get him sent to New Jersey’s Fort Dix prison for the start of his federal sentence. Their appeals worked, according to TMZ, which reported that Diddy began serving his federal sentence at Fort Dix on Thursday.

“Law enforcement sources tell us Diddy was transferred to FCI Fort Dix in New Jersey early Thursday morning and began the check-in process,” TMZ wrote. “Remember, this is the prison he requested to serve his time at after Judge Arun Subramanian sentenced him to 50 months in prison.

“The Federal Bureau of Prisons ultimately granted Diddy’s request.”

Why Diddy’s lawyers wanted him at Fort Dix

FCI Fort Dix, located in Burlington County in southern New Jersey, is a low-security federal prison for male offenders.

Combs’ lawyers applied for him to be sent to Fort Dix, arguing that it was the best place for the Bad Boy Records founder to “address drug abuse issues” and “maximize family visitation and rehabilitative efforts” at the facility.

Defense lawyer Teny Geragos also mentioned Fort Dix’s occupational and educational programs when advocating for his client. The facility is one of 53 locations nationwide with a residential drug treatment program.

Also, Combs reportedly had some issues while at Metropolitan Detention Center, including a reported incident of an inmate holding a knife to his throat as he slept.

Diddy set to be released in 2028

U.S. District Court Judge Arun Subramanian sentenced Combs to 50 months in prison back on Oct. 3. Combs’ time behind bars in Brooklyn counts toward the sentence; according to the Federal Bureau of Prisons database, he is set to be released on May 8, 2028.

With his release date now set, Combs’ lawyers are aiming to have his appeal of his conviction expedited.

“An expedited briefing and argument schedule is critical to ensure that Mr. Combs’s appeal of his sentence does not become moot while the appeal is pending,” said defense attorney Alexandra Shapiro, who added that her client’s appeal “will challenge the unfair use of the Mann Act, an infamous statute with a sordid history, to prosecute him for sex with consenting adults.”
