The promising player for the French team Olympique Marseille, Robinho Vaz, became the youngest player in the club’s history to score two goals in one match in the French Football League since 1947.
Robinho succeeded in snatching a draw against Angers (2-2) with two goals, becoming the youngest player (18 years and 254 days) to achieve a double with Marseille in Ligue 1, surpassing Maxime Lopez’s record (19 years and 147 days).

“I am grateful for the coach’s confidence,” says the France U-20 player, who can represent Senegal and Guinea-Bissau thanks to his parents’ roots. “I have to prove to him that I can achieve great things.”

Significant numbers
Robinho scored 4 goals and assisted 2 more during the 225 minutes he played this season.
In other words, he contributes to a goal every 37.5 minutes, which is much more than talented players like Lamine Djamel (every 78 minutes), Estevao (every 134 minutes), and Mastantuno (every 300 minutes).
Robinho is considered one of the most influential players in Europe, born in 2007, and is second only to Barcelona’s Lamine Jamal.
Robinho joined Sochaux in 2022 before signing with Marseille in 2024.
After the match, Marseille coach Roberto De Zerbe said, “I have a special affection for Robinho Vaz. He has two qualities that I admire: ambition and the desire to improve. He constantly surprises us. For him to enter the Stade Velodrome at the age of 18, as he does, is not an easy thing. We are very happy.”
It was De Zerbe, who gave him his first chance in the French league last season, when he was still 17 years old, as he ended up converting a penalty against Strasbourg and winning the Best Player award.
The focus of attention from the Premier League
According to La Provence, Marseille rejected multiple loan offers for Vaz earlier this year, including offers from Premier League clubs after he made his first-team debut in January 2025.
The newspaper quoted a high-ranking official at the Robert Louis-Dreyfus Training Center as saying, “If you look at the five major leagues in Europe, you will not find another player born in 2007 quite like him. He is fast, strong, and brave, and he improves technically every week.”
According to what was reported by the newspaper “La Minot OM”, De Zerbe confirmed, “He is not here for us to sell him to England in the summer. He is playing because he is a good player, and he was already that way last year. We are just helping him take the next step.”
With Guerri out injured, Vaz will compete directly with Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang for one of the two attacking positions.

Talent develops
However, the Marseille coach urges caution. “We must not put pressure on him. If you give him a starting place, and if he stays this summer… because he is ready and deserves it. I am not a coach who looks at past achievements. He plays because he is strong, and not because we are thinking about selling him in the future to the English Premier League. He has already proven that he is a key player in this team.”
De Zerbe is not the only one who admires the player, as his teammate Mason Greenwood says, “He is a star. He creates a great atmosphere every time he participates. He is amazing! Match after match, his level is improving!”
He added, “He has been great recently, especially when he comes on as a substitute. We need this energy in the second half.”
While his other teammate, Matt O’Reilly, says, “Having a player like him, who presses hard and does his best for the team, is very important.”
In turn, his teammate Kylian Abdellah told L’Equipe newspaper, “His main strength is speed and heading. He is very good at that.”
“Aubameyang has embraced him, and he is happy to see his student following in his footsteps, especially since they play in a similar style,” notes Sylvain Monsoreau, coach of the Sochaux reserve team.
