Government of Mexico will have a debt ceiling of up to 1.7 trillion pesos by 2026


The current government of President Claudia Sheinbaum will have an internal debt ceiling of up to 1.7 trillion pesos next yearaccording to the Federal Income Law (LIF) 2026 that was approved this Wednesday morning, by majority in the Senate of the Republic, and that contemplates a total of 10.1 billion pesos in investment.

The government of Mexico City was granted a debt for 3 thousand 500 million pesos, that is, the same amount as for 2025. Sheinbaum also received approval from Congress to pay interest on the debt for 1.6 billion pesos, amount equivalent to 4.1% of the Gross Domestic Product (GDP), against 3.8% of the current year.

The above occurs in a context in which the interest rate is expected to be 6% for Cetes, in a macroeconomic scenario for 2026 in which An inflation of 3% is expected, with an exchange rate of 19.30 pesos per dollar and oil at 54.90 dollars per barrel.
