Adobe gave an impressive preview of future technologies that could significantly influence the creative software landscape at this year’s MAX conference in Los Angeles. Moderated by Jessica Williams, over ten new concepts developed by Adobe Research were presented. This event, often referred to as the ‘Adobe Engineers’ Oscars’, offered a fascinating glimpse into the future of digital creativity.
One of the standout projects is ‘Project Motion Map’, which allows adding animations to static Illustrator images. Through simple text commands, users can make static images move. A notable example was the animation of a burger, where the individual layers were recognized and animated.
Another impressive tool is ‘Project Clean Take’, which revolutionizes editing audio in videos. The demonstration showed how to highlight words in a transcript and change their emphasis or even the words themselves. The tool can also split background noise into separate tracks and adjust the volume or mute noise. It’s even possible to replace background music with an AI-generated, royalty-free version.
‘Project Light Touch’ received great applause for its ability to adjust the lighting in photos after the fact. The demos featured interiors where lamps were turned on and off, completely changing the light profile of the image and making shadows appear or disappear at will.
Another notable tool is ‘Project Frame Forward’, which allows editing an entire video by editing only the first frame. Users can edit the first frame in Photoshop—removing objects or adding elements—and the AI propagates those changes throughout the video. In the live demo, a woman on a paddleboard was completely removed from a video, and in a wedding clip, background characters were removed and the lighting was completely changed – simply by editing the first frame.
