After Andrew Mountbatten Windsor’s titles and princehood were stripped, there have been calls to rename roads named after him across the UK.

Roadways dubbed Prince Andrew Way, Road and Close are dotted across England, Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland.

After the recent drama with Andrew, one veteran women’s lawyer suggested the names should be changed.

Gloria Allred has represented 27 survivors of Jeffrey Epstein and told BBC Radio Ulster the roads need to be changed: ‘We don’t like his way of doing things and the people he associated with.’

Metro reached out to five councils across the UK, which have roads named after Andrew. We found that most of the councils won’t enact a change without significant administrative processes and consultations with residents.

As for Prince Andrew Road in Maidenhead, some residents have already called for the road name to be changed earlier this month.

Local Tom Kirk told the Maidenhead Advertiser: ‘The initial feeling that stands out more than anything is it’s kind of an embarrassing association.

‘Whenever you speak with someone, if you’re ordering something or telling someone where you live, there are always raised eyebrows.’

Metro reached out to the Royal Borough of Windsor and Maidenhead for a statement.

Telford and Wrekin County Council also have a road in their vicinity called Prince Andrew Drive.

A council spokesperson for Telford told Metro: ‘Changing the name of an existing street can involve considerable time and expense and would require a consultation with residents of the street, with at least two-thirds of them to be in favour of a change.

‘Amending an existing street name also has a significant administrative impact, from residents having to change their address details, to the Royal Mail, energy providers and the emergency services having to change their records and systems.

‘Given the costs involved, Telford & Wrekin Council does not propose to change the name of Prince Andrew Drive in Malinslee at this time, but we will continue to listen to residents’ views.’

Royston has a road called Prince Andrew’s Close. Metro has also contacted North Hertfordshire Council for a statement.

In Broadstairs, one road is named Prince Andrew Road. Metro has reached out to Broadstairs and St Peter’s Town Council for a statement.

In Hitchin, a passageway is named Prince Andrew Way. Metro has also contacted Central Bedfordshire Council about a potential name change for that.

A spokesperson for Mid and East Antrim Borough Council told Metro: ‘Mid and East Antrim Borough Council is aware of the statement issued by His Majesty in relation to the formal process to remove the style, titles and honours of Andrew Mountbatten Windsor.

‘Any potential changes to street names within the Borough would need to be brought before the Council for consideration.’

The disgraced royal, who had agreed to stop using his titles after ongoing pressure due to his links with Jeffrey Epstein, has now had them taken from him to ensure that the title cannot be used officially.

He ‘will now be known as Andrew Mountbatten Windsor’, Buckingham Palace said in a statement this evening.

Mr Windsor is said not to have objected to the changes, and Prince William is believed to have been ‘supportive’ of the move.

Despite being stripped of his royal titles, Mr Windsor is still eighth in line for the throne. He is still listed as ‘Prince Andrew’ on his Buckingham Palace page.

Princess Eugenie and Princess Beatrice will retain their titles, as they are the daughters of the son of a Sovereign.

The palace added that the former Duke of York will be evicted from the Royal Lodge, a Grade II-listed, 30-room mansion in Windsor.

The commoner formerly known as a prince will move to a property on the grounds of Sandringham, a royal estate owned by King Charles in Norfolk.
