Reader is disgraced that Rachel Reeves rents out her London property for ‘£3200 a month’
Chancellor Rachel Reeves has apologised after it was revealed she failed to get a selective licence from the council to rent out her south London home.
What is puzzling is that no one has mentioned the astronomical rent she’s charging – £3,200 a month! No wonder it’s hard to find affordable homes in London.
Surely it’s time to introduce a rent cap on private housing similar to the rent agreements that are applied in social housing. Chris, Tottenham
Sarah Pochin ‘speaks for bigots’, reader says
It’s always fun to see the likes of Paul (MetroTalk, Thu) try to claim white people are no longer being represented properly because minorities are ‘vastly over-represented’ on TV.
Paul seems to be looking at very different TV ads and shows to the rest of us – white people continue to take the majority of screen time, whereas minority groups now take up roughly 20-30 per cent. It always seems more likely that what’s going on is people like Paul are upset that minorities get actual representation now, rather than being relegated to token roles where they are seen but rarely heard.
And as ever, he relies on the same false argument that the pursuit of ‘equality’ is somehow a ‘criticism’ of white people. The only people being criticised are those such as Reform MP Sarah Pochin, who speaks for bigots when she complains about there being too many black and Asian faces on TV and who Paul was seeking to defend. As a white person, I’m baffled as to why so many white people feel threatened that there’s not enough ‘white-ness’ in what is a predominantly white society.

Should we be worried about Russia’s nuclear weapons?
Dennis Fitzgerald (MetroTalk, Wed) is worried about Russia and its nuclear-powered weapons, asking why would they have them if not to use them.
Lots of countries have devastating weapons they do not use. Russia is a bully and has no intention of doing the things it says it will regarding weapons. Am I alone in seeing them for what they are, a joke?
If it were down to me, Ukraine would already be a member of Nato and Russia would have done nothing except bluster. I think the West needs to grow a backbone. Glen Purcell, Twickenham

Does anyone else find visiting the shopping centre something of an ordeal these days? I’m constantly having to run the gauntlet of enthusiastic and persistent youngsters trying to get me to change my energy provider or subscribe to some (undoubtedly very worthy) charity.
