The chairwoman Claudia Sheinbaum assured that the automotive companies who are in Mexico they will not close for the tariff threat of Trump.
This Friday, after recognizing that the septuagenarian president’s constant tariff threats have impacted the Mexican economy – a situation that she assured will be resolved by the end of 2025 – the head of the Federal Executive stressed that the plant closures that have occurred in recent months respond to decisions previously made by companies.

“We have been speaking personally, not only with the administrators of automotive companies in Mexico, the so-called Mexican and non-global CEOs. I have spoken with practically all European and American companies and all those that are manufactured in Mexico. Some that have decided that they closed are not due to tariff decisions, they were decisions that they had previously made regarding models that were no longer going to be manufactured. They have not said them clearly and have even published it. So no company is going to close as a result of this situation,” he indicated.
Contraction of the economy
While, regarding the contraction of the economy, Sheinbaum Pardo said that it is a situation that manifested itself in the second semester “mainly generated by the uncertainty related to the tariff situation, particularly for the automotive industry, that is why we want a better agreement.”
