The National Union of Police Officers (SNOP) began “institutional and political awareness raising” on the rules for calculating retirement pensions among professionals from the Public Security Police (PSP) and the National Republican Guard (GNR). “Before we go back to the courts for what is fair, we appeal to those who have political and legislative responsibility to correct the problem”the president of SNOP, Bruno Pereira, explains to DN.
According to the subintendent, the situation, classified as an “inequality”, is “completely unacceptable”. It states that differences in pensions can reach 500 euros in some cases. The objective is to correct these values, in order to ensure equality between professionals who perform similar functions in the country’s internal security system.
“We try to justify the intervention of those who have the constitutional competence to be able to change it, if, unfortunately, the Government does not want to do so on its own initiative”, he details. A statement was sent on Friday, October 31, to the parliamentary groups, the President of the Republic, the Prime Minister, the President of the Assembly of the Republic and the Attorney General of the Republic. “Let’s hope there is common sense to correct an inequality that is completely unacceptable”, he anticipates. “We are waiting for a response from whoever it may be,” he adds.
Bruno Pereira also highlights that “there are already court decisions that support this understanding”. However, the union’s decision was to take the matter to public discussion before proceeding to the courts.
