Kaizer Chiefs star faces R6.1 million tax storm

Kaizer Chiefs midfielder Gaston Sirino has landed in serious trouble with the South African Revenue Service (SARS), as reports claim he owes a massive R6.1 million in unpaid personal tax.

The Uruguayan playmaker allegedly chose to ignore a formal request from SARS, consequently, the tax authority escalated the matter by initiating legal action. As a result, his reputation and assets now face serious risk, and unless he acts swiftly, the situation could worsen further.

SARS reportedly applied for a default judgment at the Johannesburg High Court. Accusing Sirino of failing to respond to a letter of demand issued in March 2025. The letter, which Sunday World quotes, issued a stern warning:

“According to the records of the South African Revenue Service. You have failed to pay your tax debt for one or more tax years and tax periods.”

SARS requests that you make full payment within 10 days from the date of this letter of demand.

Sirino’s apparent silence has prompted SARS to ramp up its response. The revenue authority has made it clear that should the Chiefs midfielder fail to comply. They won’t hesitate to pursue more aggressive enforcement tactics.

Assets on the line for Sirino

In the same letter, SARS warned that it could auction off Sirino’s assets if he doesn’t settle the debt.

“Failure to make full payment or use the above remedies may result in the following actions and possibly others. SARS may appoint any third party who presently or in the future will owe you money. Or hold money for you to settle your tax debt with this money.

“A civil judgment is being entered against you. In which case a warrant of execution may be issued for the sheriff of the court to attach and sell your assets.”

With the situation escalating, Sirino now faces a crucial decision, comply or risk public asset seizure and legal embarrassment. As pressure mounts, all eyes are on the midfielder and how he’ll respond to this multi-million rand scandal.
