Kaizer Chiefs have reignited their interest in Mamelodi Sundowns defender Terrence Mashego, who was left off the squad currently playing at the FIFA Club World Cup.
The Mamelodi-born defender failed to solidify a starting role this season as Miguel Cardoso prioritised Aubrey Modiba, Divine Lunga and Asekho Tiwani. According to sources close to the player, Mashego is keen on a move away in order to secure minutes next season.
New talent from Tanzania
Meanwhile, Kaizer Chiefs are eyeing Young Africans attacking midfielder Maxi Ngenzeli.
“At the moment the club has not yet signed some of the players who they want nor those they are looking at. It’s believed that they are spreading the search wide so that they can get the kind of players they really need this season,” an inside source said.
“Apparently, Maxwell Nzengeli is one player they are also looking at. Coach Nabi knows him already, and the scouts and recruiters are also believed to have liked him and are looking at the possibility of getting him, depending on the conditions around the transfer.”
Another player on their radar is SuperSport left-back Neo Rapoo.
“Orlando Pirates and Kaizer Chiefs are both keen to sign SuperSport United left-back Neo Rapoo ahead of the new season,” a source revealed.
“His performances as he led South Africa U20 to the Africa Cup of Nations title earned him interest in Scandinavia and the Gulf but sources as Matsatsansa have confirmed Chiefs and Pirates are both seriously after the player who is seen as future senior national team left-back.”
“With Orlando Pirates having released Paseka Mako and the retirement of Innocent Maela, their interest on the promising full-back comes as no surprise, while Kaizer Chiefs are looking to remedy a position that has plagued them in the last couple of seasons.”
