Manchester United will begin their 2025-26 Premier League season against Arsenal when the new campaign kicks off in August.

A thoroughly miserable showing last term saw United finish in 15th place, with Ruben Amorim’s men losing 18 of their 38 games with only the three relegated teams and Everton conceding more.

To make matters worse, arch-rivals Liverpool took the crown, drawing level with United with each side now on 20 league titles.

United meet the champions for the first time next season on October 18 with the first Manchester derby of the season against Manchester City falling on September 13.

The 2025/26 Premier League season will start on the weekend of August 16/17 – just 83 days after the end of the 2024-25 campaign.

United have moved swiftly to address some of last season’s biggest problems with Matheus Cunha brought in from Wolves.

There is hope Bryan Mbeumo will follow him with the Brentford star giving the green light to a move to Old Trafford if a deal can be struck with the Bees.

Cunha and Mbeumo scored 35 Premier League goals between them last season – the sort of contribution that will be a welcomed boost to United’s misfiring attack.

What Ruben Amorim has said ahead of the new season

After arriving to replace Erik ten Hag in November, Amorim could not have had a more wretched start to life at Old Trafford.

The Portuguese coach retains the backing of the United board however and hopes a full preseason with his squad can lay the groundwork for major improvement.

‘It was important to finish the season, we needed to close that chapter,” Amorim said.

‘To tell you the truth, I closed that chapter, I’m excited, I’m nervous, I want to work to the next season, I don’t have that feeling that I need to disconnect, I had the feeling to close the season, but now it’s a new season, so I am excited at the same moment.

‘So, I don’t need rest, I just need to prepare for the next season.’
