Sabrina Carpenter’s ‘Manchild’ debuts at Number 1 on Billboard

Sabrina Carpenter’s latest single, Manchild, has stormed straight to the top of the Billboard Hot 100. This makes the song her first debut at number one and her second overall chart-topper.

Released on 5 June, Manchild is the lead single for Carpenter’s forthcoming album, Man’s Best Friend, which drops on 29 August.

SABRINA CARPENTER’S NEW HIT

The song racked up a staggering 27 million official streams and 14 million in radio airplay audience impressions in the US alone, according to Billboard.

Sales hit 20,000 units, with a special 7-inch vinyl edition—featuring the cheeky B-side Inside of Your Head When You’ve Just Won an Argument with a Man—selling 14,000 copies.

In rand terms, that’s over R370,000 in sales, just for the vinyl.

Sabrina Carpenter’s rise is rewriting the rules of modern pop.

Sabrina Carpenter told Rolling Stone, “I don’t follow any rules anymore. Whenever inspiration strikes me to write and create, I do it.”

‘MANCHILD’

The track, co-written with Jack Antonoff and Amy Allen, was born on what Carpenter calls “the best random Tuesday of my life.”

She describes the song as “the embodiment of a loving eye roll. It feels like a never-ending summer road trip.”

On Spotify South Africa, Manchild made an impressive debut. It quickly climbed into the country’s Top 10 chart within its first week of release.

On Apple Music and iTunes South Africa, Manchild also performed well. The song peaked within the Top 20 and receiving a surge in downloads during its release weekend.

This made the song one of the standout international pop releases in the South African market this winter.

SABRINA CARPENTER, POP’S NEW IT GIRL

So what sets Carpenter apart? She’s the only woman in 2025 to score multiple Hot 100 number ones without a lot of featured artists.

That’s a rare achievement, and it’s got Island Records celebrating their first ever number one debut in the Hot 100’s 66-year history.

Her journey from Disney star to Grammy-winning pop powerhouse has been nothing short of meteoric.

Sabrina Carpenter’s last album, Short n’ Sweet, also topped charts and scooped two Grammys. Now, with Manchild, she’s cemented her place as a global pop force.
