Pirates news: Saleng’s decision-maker, new target confirmed

Orlando Pirates have a lot on their plate, from trying to find a new coach and players to finalising the future of Monnapule Saleng, who has been exiled since early December.

While an offseason exit for the 27-year-old seems all but sealed, there’s speculation as to why it hasn’t happened already. Could he perhaps be waiting to find out the manager in order to identify whether he will fit in their system and, thus, remain with the Buccaneers?

It’s plausible, however, that there’s also the argument that he’s stuck in Soweto with clubs not interested in signing a potential troublemaker. The jury is still out on this saga.

New target confirmed

Left-back Neo Rapoo, 19 years old, had a stellar season with league strugglers SuperSport United, so much so that he was both the Soweto giants vying for his services.

“Orlando Pirates and Kaizer Chiefs are both keen to sign SuperSport United left-back Neo Rapoo ahead of the new season,” an inside source revealed.

“His performances as he led South Africa U20 to the Africa Cup of Nations title earned him interest in Scandinavia and the Gulf but sources as Matsatsansa have confirmed Chiefs and Pirates are both seriously after the player who is seen as future senior national team left-back.”

“With Orlando Pirates having released Paseka Mako and the retirement of Innocent Maela, their interest on the promising full-back comes as no surprise, while Chiefs are looking to remedy a position that has plagued them in the last couple of seasons.”

While the destination is unknown, the youngster looks set to leave this winter.

What should Orlando Pirates do with Saleng?
