Budget shoppers eagerly waiting for an Aldi to pitch up in their neighbourhood have a reason to get excited.

That’s because the discount supermarket has revealed its list of priority locations where it wants to open new stores.

Aldi is already the UK’s fourth-largest supermarket with more than 1,050 shops nationwide, but now it hopes to bring its wares to new areas like Witney in Oxfordshire and Balby in Doncaster.

The brand aims to eventually open 1,500 shops in the UK, and says it’s spending £650million in 2025 towards that goal.

This year alone Aldi plans to open 40 new shops this year, but bosses have now laid out the 20 new pastures it wants to reach in the years ahead.

Jonathan Neale from Aldi UK said: ‘We want to make high-quality, affordable food accessible to everyone, and that means opening new stores in the communities that need them most.

‘The response from the public has been invaluable in helping us identify where demand is greatest, and where we need to focus our efforts on finding the sites that can become new stores.’

Criteria for the new sites are clear. They are looking for shop spaces which can accommodate a 20,000 sq ft store with around 100 parking spaces.

The stores will also be near a main road with good visibility and access.

In May, the supermarket revealed the 10 stores it will open over the summer.

The Aldi’s will be setting up shop in Fulham Broadway in London, West Denton in Newcastle and Oldbury in the West Midlands, among other locations.
