Former uMkhonto weSizwe (MK) Party secretary-general Floyd Shivambu, together with other people, will consult with various sectors of society regarding the formation of a political party.
Shivambu announced this during a media briefing on Thursday, 19 June.
FLOYD SHIVAMBU SET TO CONSULT OVER FORMING A NEW POLITICAL PARTY
During the briefing, Shivambu, he was axed as the MK Party’s secretary-general earlier in June based on fake intelligence report that he wanted to overthrow party leader Jacob Zuma.
He also revealed that he was set to be expelled by Zuma as a letter terminating his membership had already been drafted.
Further, Shivambu revealed that several people including some from the MK Party approached him to form a political party as joining his former parties the African National Congress (ANC) and the Economic Freedom Fighters (EFF) are not viable options.
“My first response to a number of those who came first was that we should not form a political party; let us fight within the existing ones, but if we were to form a political party, let us go to the people of South Africa and ask them if they want a political party. You can’t form a political party as a group of friends or a few individuals. A political party should never be an individual project,” he said.
Shivambu said they will consult traditional and religious leaders and other prominent people in the country. They will announce the leadership core that will lead the process in the next few days.
“Is there a need to form a political party? If yes, what should be the values and principles of the political party. What would distinguish the political party from the existing ones? These are the questions we are going to ask,” he said.
