A one-year-old, eight-month-old baby lost his life while being treated by paramedics. Texcocoafter he and the other five members of his family suffered carbon monoxide poisoning inside a home located in the Las Vegas Housing Unit.

Due to the severity of poisoning Fernanda “N”, 16 years old, was taken to a hospital to receive medical attention; Ruth Alejandra “N”, 19; Francisco “N”, 27; María Elena “N”, 69, a man over 47, in addition to little Erai “N”, 20 months old.

It was the neighbors of the affected family who requested emergency services by alerting the Control, Command, Communication and Computing Center (C4), since they detected a strong smell of gas inside the one located on Higuerilla Street.

Paramedics who arrived at the scene found six intoxicated people, including two minors, inside an apartment, all with symptoms of prolonged exposure to fuel in a closed space.

The infant’s father was the one who, using his own means, transferred him to the General Hospital of the IMSS Zone 197, however, although they were initially able to stabilize him, minutes later, the hospital’s medical staff confirmed the death of the child when he was receiving first aid, while the rest of the people continued to receive the corresponding care.

According to the authorities’ first investigations, the property lacked proper ventilation, so this condition would have led to the gas accumulation, Therefore, they urged local residents to check the gas installations and adequate air flow.

The Regional Prosecutor’s Office Texcoco was notified of the unfortunate event, and therefore began the corresponding investigations to determine the exact causes of the poisoning and the reason that led to the death of little Erai.
