Cybercriminals use a new type of fraud to deceive Netflix subscribers and steal their personal information or banking details.

Through a statementthe agency reported that thanks to network surveillance efforts it was able to identify cybercriminals what they send fake emails to users of said streaming platform, with the purpose of stealing their data personal and his information banking.
As indicated by the SSC-CdMx, in these emails the company’s logo, colors and corporate language are reproduced almost identically, and in these emails users are falsely informed that their subscription has expired or that there is a problem with the payment method.

In these apocryphal messages they invite people to click on a link to “update your data” or “avoid suspension of the service”; However, this link takes victims to a fake site where they are asked to enter their email address, password, and banking details.
The data obtained from Netflix subscribers who are victims of this deception is used by cybercriminals to commit financial fraud or access personal accounts. This type of cyber attack is known as phishing and is one of the most common practices to steal information.
How to avoid falling for this fraud?
So that Netflix subscribers do not become victims of this new type of email fraud, the Cyber Police of the SSC-CdMx issued the following recommendations:
- Before entering personal data, verify that the website address begins with “ and does not contain spelling errors.
- Do not click on links included in emails, messages or publications from unknown senders.
- Use strong and different passwords for each account, preferably combining letters, numbers and symbols.
- Enable two-factor authentication for added protection.
- Keep devices and applications updated to reduce vulnerabilities.

- Do not trust emails with promotions or urgent warnings; Remember that Netflix does not request personal data through this means.
- Frequently review your bank transactions and immediately report any suspicious charges.
