In a joint statement, EU Commission President Ursula von der Leyen and Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney emphasized the importance of this cooperation in uncertain geopolitical times.
The Safe program was created to intensify defense efforts in Europe and prepare for possible threats, particularly from Russia. Intelligence agencies predict that Russia could be a potentially militarily active actor by 2030.
