Opposition accuses possible fraud and Trump threatens Honduras

The electoral authorities of Honduras indicated that they will not give forced deadlines and that the priority is to guarantee certainty in the final result.

Mexico City, December 2 (However).- The President of the United States (EU), Donald Trumptension escalated on Monday with Honduras by denouncing an alleged attempt to “alter the results” of the elections presidential and demand National Electoral Council (CNE) reactivate the scrutiny without delay. On the other hand, the opposition accused possible fraudjust as he had done in advance in recent weeks.

In a message published Monday night in Truth Socialwarned that, if a change in the trend is confirmed, “there will be serious consequences.”

“It appears that Honduras is trying to change the results of its presidential elections. If they do, a high price will have to be paid,” the US President wrote, insisting that it is “imperative” to conclude the count.

According to preliminary data, based on 56.85 percent of the minutes counted, Nasry Asfura and Salvador Nasralla are in a technical tie, both with around 39.9 percent of the votes.

The president’s position contrasts with the official message of the State Department, which asked for “patience” and stressed that the results are still preliminary.

Meanwhile, the US Embassy in Tegucigalpa replied to the statement, recalling that the process “must continue until its completion.”

The second CNE bulletin places Asfura (National Party) with 746,708 votes (39.93 percent), just above the 745,620 votes (39.87 percent) obtained by Nasralla (Liberal Party). The difference, of about a thousand votes, keeps the stage open while the manual count progresses.

The CNE reported earlier that it began reviewing the minutes due to contingency, without offering an estimated date for completion. “We must remain calm, be patient and wait,” said its Presidential Advisor, Ana Paola Hall.

Trump has actively intervened in the Honduran race. He openly supports Asfura and has warned that he could cut cooperation with Honduras if the final result does not favor him. He even accused Nasralla of being “almost communist.”

Meanwhile, Nasralla rejected the statements, attributing them to “malicious disinformation.” Asfura said yesterday that he is “ready to collaborate” with the US.

The President also announced that he will pardon former Honduran President Juan Orlando Hernández, convicted in the United States for drug trafficking, which has generated criticism from left-wing sectors and is interpreted as a gesture towards the country’s conservative elites.

The electoral observation mission of the Organization of American States (OAS) highlighted the “high participation” and the “civic spirit,” although it reported incidents: Vote Reception Boards that did not open in the municipality of San Antonio de Flores, soldiers photographing observer credentials, and obstacles to entering the count.

The OAS asked to strengthen the institutional communication of the CNE, guarantee maximum transparency, ensure the protection of electoral documents and complete the pending vote in El Paraíso.

A country divided and without a clear forecast

After a campaign marked by early allegations of fraud, Honduras voted calmly on Sunday, but the close closure keeps the country in suspense. “It is impossible to determine the winner with the data we have,” warned analyst Carlos Cálix.

Asfura is seeking the Presidency for the second time and Nasralla for the third, in a country with 60 percent of the population living in poverty and a great rejection of the political class.
