Chiconcuac faces in 2025 one of the most complex scenarios in recent years: the shortage of drinking water, a problem that continues without a solution despite the promises of the municipal government headed by Rafael Vázquez De la Rosa, elected municipal president who assumed office with the commitment to address this historic crisis.

However, almost a year into the administration, progress has been minimal and citizen annoyance is increasing.

Residents of neighborhoods such as San Miguel, Santiago and the Central Zone have indicated that supply interruptions have become longer in recent months, forcing hundreds of families to buy water in pipes at high prices.

According to testimonies collected by Enough Diary!,y Edomex Todaythere are homes that have gone up to ten days without receiving a single drop, a situation that directly affects domestic and commercial activities.

The current government has attributed the problem to deterioration of the hydraulic networkto the shortage in the municipality’s wells and the alleged failure to comply with agreements by regional organizations. However, local specialists and former authorities have pointed out that operational failures, the lack of preventive maintenance and the absence of a clear strategy have deepened the crisis.

Neighborhood organizations have also criticized the lack of transparency in the management of resources allocated to the drinking water system, as they assure that there are no detailed public reports of the repairs carried out, nor of the operating costs of the municipal agency. Added to this is that, despite the emergency, efficient testing programs or massive information campaigns have not been activated.

Meanwhile, street market merchants and textile producers report economic losses due to not being able to maintain washing, dyeing or cleaning processes, which directly affects the local economy, one of the pillars of the municipality.
