The NFL’s feel-good story of the 2025 season just got even sweeter.
It was Oct. 7, during Week 7, and the Detroit Lions were hosting the Tampa Bay Buccaneers on Monday Night Football, when a husband and wife jokingly roasted a fan donning a Detroit Pistons jersey.
As the couple tells it, they and other fans joked with the Pistons jersey-wearing fan that he was at the wrong game. It turned out the fan’s a Lions fan, but he didn’t have a Lions jersey, so he decided to wear the only Detroit jersey in his closet.
What Happened Next Is Awesome
In an Instagram post she later shared, the wife asked the fan who his favorite Lions player was, and he pointed to her jersey, Jahmyr Gibbs.
“I looked at my husband and said, ‘We have to go buy him a jersey,'” she shared on Instagram.
Unbeknownst to her, a fan sitting behind the generous couple recorded the gift exchange. She handed the fan the jersey. The fan, at first, looked confused, wondering to whom she intended to pass the jersey, only to realize she had bought the jersey for him.
That video went viral, which prompted the woman to explain the random act of kindness.
Lions Pay It Forward
On Thanksgiving Day, the Lions invited the couple to the team’s home game against the Green Bay Packers. Sure, the Lions lost a tough one, but there were still warm fuzzies to go around when husband and wife were invited onto the field.
The Lions really played it up, first with an Amon-Ra St. Brown video message, in which the NFL star thanked the fans for their generosity. A Lions staffer then gifted the couple St. Brown-autographed jerseys.
But then the big surprise: an all-expenses-paid trip to Super Bowl LX on February 8, at Levi’s Stadium in San Francisco.
It’s unclear if the Lions will even make the playoffs this year despite a strong start to the 2025 season, but at least they’ll be well represented by two very kind Lions fans.
