Ahead of the holiday season, Amazon is looking to become even more expeditious.
Wondering how?
The company announced on Monday that it is testing out a new service that would deliver household items and groceries to homes in a whopping 30 minutes or less.
“Customers can shop from a wide selection of items, including milk, eggs, fresh produce, toothpaste, cosmetics, pet treats, diapers, paper products, electronics, seasonal items, over-the-counter medicines, chips, dips, and more,” the company revealed in a press statement.
But there’s a catch.
Where Can You Access Amazon Now
The service, dubbed Amazon Now, is only being rolled out in parts of Seattle, Washington and Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. So most of American’s aren’t eligible to utilize the new service just yet.
If you live in those cities, customers can look to see if the “30-Minute Delivery” option appears in the navigation bar.
Additional Fees
If you’re a Prime member, delivery fees will begin at $3.99 per order. Meanwhile, you’ll be forking over $13.99 if you don’t have a membership.
If your order is less than $15, an additional $1.99 small bag fee will be applied to your order.
Amazon already offers Same-Day delivery for Prime members on certain orders.
How Is Amazon Accomplishing This?
Amazon says it is “utilizing specialized smaller facilities designed for efficient order fulfillment, strategically placed close to where Seattle- and Philadelphia-area customers live and work.”
“This approach prioritizes the safety of employees picking and packing orders, reduces the distance delivery partners need to travel, and enables faster delivery times,” it added.
Last month, Geekwire reported that the company would be utilizing “a retail-style delivery hub for rapid dispatch of Amazon Flex drivers” in the Seattle area.
