Spain retained its title in the Women’s Nations League after beating Germany 3-0 this Tuesday at the Madrid Metropolitano in the second leg of the final, after the 0-0 win on Friday in Kaiserslautern.
A double from Claudia Pina (61′, 74′) and another goal from Vicky López (68′) helped the La Roja players to become champions and redeem themselves from the defeat in the Euro Cup final in the penalty shootout last summer against England.
Sonia Bermúdez’s pupils, who improved considerably compared to their performance in the first leg, controlled possession and had the clearest chances, although the scoreboard did not move in the first half.
The recital began in the second half with the arrival of fatigue among the German soccer players, who were overwhelmed by the high pace that the Spanish team was printing.
Pina, very active throughout the duel, opened the scoring. Caldentey gave up a ball for the FC Barcelona player to unleash a strong right hand and send the ball into the back of the net.
The Germans tried to get up, but López, 19, took a left-footed shot from the right side of the inside of the area that entered the top corner.
An insatiable Pina sealed the match with a great goal from the front.
Spain was deprived this Tuesday of its triple Ballon d’Or winner, Aitana Bonmatí (2023, 2024, 2025), who suffered a fractured fibula in training on Sunday, and who will be out for around five months.
The Spanish women win the Women’s Nations League for the second time in as many editions.
At the end of February 2024 they defeated France in the final (2-0), when the title was disputed over a single match.
