From Beira to the world
Mação, district of Santarém, is the birthplace of Carlos Manuel Lopes Alexandre, son of postman José Alexandre and factory worker Narcisa Lopes. In the future, he will describe himself as “the hillbilly from Mação”.
1986
Loose and tight knots
He agrees to join a list in the Municipal Assembly of Mação, but the municipal experience leaves no memories. He marries Floribela, a Finance employee, with whom he has two children and who has said that, for him, “Justice is a priesthood”.
2000
Win by accumulating
He was in the Mixed Courts of Sintra when, in April 2000, he accepted to accumulate duties in the Military Judiciary Police, as an investigating judge. This is when he gains expertise in corruption, fraud and forgery schemes.

He is placed at the Central Criminal Instruction Court (TCIC), where he will stay for almost two decades and will have to deal with some of the most complex and high-profile cases in the country, which will bring him national notoriety.

Real threats
The first threats appear, which force him to be accompanied by the PSP to guarantee his personal safety, after a pistol appears over the photo of his children, inside the house.

Disciplinary proceedings were initiated against him following statements to RTP that called into question the draw of judges for Operação Marquês.
2023
To the judge what belongs to the judge
It is announced by the Superior Council of Judiciary that he is placed in a criminal section of the Lisbon Court of Appeal, winning what was his first option. As an alternative, he pointed to Évora.
2025
The SNS cleaner
He returned to the newspapers when he saw his name announced to lead the Commission to Combat Fraud in the National Health Service, created by the Government to identify the existence of waste and financial and criminal offenses in the NHS.
