Elusive Oscar winner Jack Nicholson has been spotted in a rare family photo posted by his daughter, actor Lorraine Nicholson.
On Thursday, Dec. 4, Lorraine posted a carousel of festive photos to her Instagram account featuring pictures from her family’s Thanksgiving celebrations. One of the photos featured Lorraine flanked by her famous father and brother Ray, likewise an actor best known for his performance in Smile 2 (2024). “A November to remember,” Lorraine captioned the carousel. Nicholson is wearing a black button-up in the photo, smiling broadly next to his children with his hair slicked back.
Elsewhere in the carousel, Lorraine posted photos of herself and her partner, Juno director Jason Reitman, as they attended the Governor’s Ball alongside fellow filmmaker Guillermo del Toro. The final photo was a tongue-in-cheek shot of a plate of prosciutto-wrapped melon designed to look like Oscar statuettes.
Fans Were Thrilled to See the Oscar Winner
Fans were thrilled to get a look at Jack, which is an exceedingly rare occasion these days. “Your dad♥️ nice to see him,” wrote one. “So glad to see Jack looking so amazing! You and your brother as well!” another person said. “Great seeing your dad!” chimed another fan. Jack has been retired for more than a decade, with his last film appearance being James L. Brooks’ How Do You Know (2010).
Nicholson Has No Plans to Work Again
On a 2023 episode of WTF with Marc Maron, Maron revealed that he had a friend who tried to recruit the uninterested retiree into a new role. “A friend of mine wanted to put him in a movie,” the host claimed, “and he had a conversation with him. But Jack says, ‘I don’t want to do it.’ He goes, ‘You know what I did today? I sat under a tree and I read a book.’”
“That sounds like Jack,” responded Maron’s guest, Lou Adler, a longtime friend of Jack. “He’s doing whatever he really wants to do. He wants to be quiet. He wants to eat what he wants. He wants to live the life he wants.”
Lorraine is an actor herself, best known for her roles opposite her father in Something’s Gotta Give (2003); opposite Adam Sandler in Click (2006); and opposite Robin Williams in Bobcat Goldthwait’s World’s Greatest Dad (2009). Her most recent role was in the 2016 thriller Room 105.
Nicholson Has 6 Children
Jack has six children between the ages of 61 and 31. His youngest child, Tessa Gourin, wrote a 2023 article in Newsweek in which she referred to herself as the actor’s “illegitimate” daughter.
“The truth is, in all of my 28 years of life, we have never had a relationship,” Gourin wrote. “Although I flew from New York City to Los Angeles to meet on the odd occasion as a young girl (at the behest of my mother), it was always clear that he wanted no part in my life. Have you ever been on a date and sensed that the other person just wasn’t feeling it? That’s pretty much how every interaction I have ever had with Jack Nicholson has gone.”
Gourin continued: “I don’t hide the fact that Jack Nicholson is my biological father. Why should I? However, it is also not something I’ve ever led with in a conversation. So many people have been forced to live with the pain of a parent’s absence, famous or not. But it makes it that much harder when that absent parent is actively in the lives of their other children, which is the case for me.”
