Final Neighbours spoilers confirm end of an era as much-loved soap finishes after 40 years

The end of an era beckons as Neighbours prepares to say goodbye once more, with the final week seeing the fight for Ramsay Street’s future wage on.

The popular Aussie soap, which was rescued by Amazon shortly after its terrestrial TV finale three years ago, will conclude once again this Thursday (December 11) after 460 bonus episodes on the streaming service.

And the race to save the Street is well underway after Erinsborough council concluded that a new freeway be built on the very site where the residents have lived for decades.

Susan and Karl Kennedy (Jackie Woodburne and Alan Fletcher) stand against the plan, hoping to secure a future for the Street, while Paul Robinson (Stefan Dennis) and Shane Ramsay (Peter O’Brien) have alternative options should the rebellion fail.

This finale will differ greatly from the last, though fans can expect tears, devastation and familiar faces along the way in what promises to be a fitting farewell for the legendary soap opera, which has been a staple of UK TV for 40 years.

For a little preview, Metro is on hand one last time to dish out some Neighbours spoilers – though nothing too revelatory as we wouldn’t want to ruin the farewell – so grab yourself a cuppa and let’s dive in.

Remi is upset in Neighbours

Ramsay Street unites to find missing JJ Varga-Murphy (Riley Bryant), who vanished without a trace at the end of the previous episode. With mortal nemesis Eric Linwell at large after escaping from a prison van, Cara (Sara West) and Remi (Naomi Rukavina) fear the worst.

Just days after divorce was mentioned, former couple Wendy and Andrew Rodwell (Candice Leask and Lloyd Will) put their differences aside to assist in the search for JJ while Holly Hoyland (Lucinda Armstrong Hall) plays detective – with unexpected results.

The question is: will JJ be found? And can Eric Linwell be apprehended before he causes any more heartache?

Tensions simmer between Terese Willis (Rebekah Elmaloglou) and Paul, with the future of Ramsay Street – plus his Robinson Tower’s venture – causing friction.

Despite their conflict, Paul is determined to get Terese on side – though he’s also keen to get the better of former rival and longtime friend Shane, whose Ramsay Hills proposition has thrown a spanner in the works.

Elsewhere, Holly collapses in pain, with former love rival Wendy coming to her rescue, staying by her side while her family arrive.

Krista Sinclair (Majella Davis) offers support to Holly in the aftermath of the hospital visit – and things take quite a turn for her story too.

Can’t wait for the next twist?

In light of recent events, Krista tries to remain calm while Leo Tanaka (Tim Kano) attempts to support her.

Nicolette Stone (Hannah Monson) hatches a plan to help Leo while Clint Hendry (Jason Wilder) and Jane Harris (Annie Jones) ponder where things will go next for them.

Is there a future for the pair?

Elsewhere, Paul and Shane’s war wages on, with Shane coming up trumps when he manages to organise a special trip for the locals to visit Ramsay Hills, much to Paul’s chagrin.

Paul, meanwhile, decides to surprise Terese with a commitment ceremony in front of their friends and neighbours. The soulmates reaffirm their love for one another – and Terese makes a big decision.

In the series finale, Paul and Shane are determined to win over their friends and neighbours with Robinson Towers and Ramsay Hills respectively. Will either succeed?

Susan, meanwhile, refuses to give up on saving Ramsay Street and, as friends old and new come together to honour the legacy of the street in question, Susan remains determined to fight for her beloved home.

The question is: just how will this chapter in the story of Erinsborough come to an end?
