The premier hilltop hotel in the north of Joburg has unveiled a dramatic new Destination Lobby and Lobby Lounge just in time for the festive season.
The redesign marks the final phase of a multi-year, USD $25 million upgrade that began in 2023 and cements The Westcliff’s position as Johannesburg’s leading luxury urban resort.
The refreshed arrival space now serves as a sophisticated social hub for both guests and local visitors, blending contemporary elegance with a distinctly Joburg identity.
The Westcliff’s new ‘living room’
Regional Vice President and General Manager of Four Seasons Hotel The Westcliff Martin Cody has described the Destination Lobby and Lobby Lounge as “the hotel’s living room.”
“It is a place where guests are welcomed and immediately feel at home, begin their day with intention and end it with ease, where business meets pleasure, and where the energy of Johannesburg finds its reflection in panoramic views across the city.”

Bathed in natural light and framed by panoramic views over Forest Town, Saxonwold and Rosebank, the voluminous space links seamlessly to an expansive veranda, offering a smooth transition from morning meetings to sunset drinks.
The adjoining Lobby Lounge doubles as a patisserie and all-day dining venue by day. After dark, it transforms into a chic cocktail bar.
Big upgrades behind the scenes
The makeover at The Westcliff also introduces several operational improvements, including an expanded check-in area, a 100-bay undercover parking facility beneath the lobby, and improved connectivity to Flames restaurant and the Four Seasons Spa.
The Grand Ballroom – now Johannesburg’s largest luxury events venue with capacity for 400 guests – has been given its own dedicated entrance. This enhances privacy for weddings, galas and high-profile functions.
Festive season celebrations
To showcase the new space, The Westcliff is rolling out a festive programme throughout December:
- Christmas Eve: A refined five-course dinner.
- Christmas Day Lunch: A lavish buffet featuring sushi, oysters, carvery and braai stations.
- Christmas Day Dinner: An intimate five-course experience.
- Festive Afternoon Tea (15–31 December): A two-part service with distinctly South African flavours, followed by a sweet course (cranberry scones, peppermint crisp confections, and ginger-vanilla petit gateaux.)
- New Year’s Eve Gala: A global tasting journey inside the Grand Ballroom, capped off with one of Joburg’s most atmospheric countdowns.
