There are only a few weeks left in 2025, and the first major award show of 2026 will honor some of the best performances and work from the worlds of film and television. The Golden Globes are set for mid-January, and the list of nominees for the prestigious honor was revealed on Monday.
The competition between the biggest names on screen will be fierce, but one film stands above the rest when it comes to nominations. A film by a well-respected director that stars an incredibly talented cast is usually a recipe for success, and that is certainly true for Paul Thomas Anderson’s “One Battle After Another.”
The film received near universal acclaim from fans and critics alike, and it’s been honored with several Golden Globe nominations. “One Battle After Another” was nominated nine times, including for best motion picture (musical or comedy) and best director.
Anderson, DiCaprio Lead the Way
Anderson was nominated along with Ryan Coogler (“Sinners”), Guillermo Del Toro (“Frankenstein”), Jafar Panahi (“It Was Just an Accident”), Joachim Trier (“Sentimental Value”) and Chloé Zhao (“Hamnet”).
Anderson, Coogler, Panahi, Trier and Zhao were also recognized as writers in the best screenplay category.
In the best picture category inclusive of musicals and comedies, “One Battle After Another” was nominated with “Blue Moon,” “Bugonia,” “Marty Supreme,” “No Other Choice” and “Nouvelle Vague.”
Leonardo DiCaprio, Sean Penn, Benicio Del Toro, Teyana Taylor and Chase Infinitii have each been nominated for their performances in the film. Penn and Del Toro will each be considered for the best supporting actor award, inclusive of musicals and comedies.
Radiohead guitarist Jonny Greenwood was nominated in the best original score category for his work on the film, joining heralded film composers like Ludwig Göransson (“Sinners”) and Hans Zimmer (“F1”).
Popular Films, TV Shows Acknowledged
Some of the year’s most popular films were also recognized. Cynthia Erivo and Ariana Grande were each nominated for their roles in the highly successful “Wicked: For Good,” while hits like “Weapons” and “Kpop Demon Hunters” were selected for nominations in other categories.
On the television side, “The White Lotus” leads with six nominations. The show won in 2023 after being nominated in the best limited series category, and actress Jennifer Coolidge won for best supporting actress.
This year, “The White Lotus” has been nominated for best television drama outright, along with “The Diplomat, “”The Pitt, “”Pluribus, “”Severance” and “Slow Horses.”
Fans can tune in to watch the Golden Globes on Sunday, January 11 on CBS and Paramount+.
