The Game Awards, arguably the biggest game event of the year, is happening on Thursday, December 11. The event celebrates all the year’s best games and also gives fans a sneak peek of what’s to come next, and a video game legend will be making an appearance at the show.
Confirmed by the official Tomb Raider X account, an announcement about Lara Croft and the future of the Tomb Raider series is happening at the show. The caption reads, “Did you miss her? She missed you… tune in to The Game Awards on December 11 for a look at the future of one of gaming’s most iconic franchises.”
Tomb Raider has not had a new entry in the long-running series since Shadow of the Tomb Raider in 2018. Previously, developer Crystal Dynamics revealed Lara’s new design, but that was over a year ago now.
It’s currently unknown if this is a completely new Tomb Raider game or if it is another remake of the original 1996 Tomb Raider game. That title previously got a remake called Tomb Raider: Anniversary in 2007 and became a part of the Legend trilogy of Tomb Raider games.
Rumors have suggested the title is indeed another remake of the original Tomb Raider, but one that is being designed to fit in with the Survivor trilogy of Tomb Raider games, which were all prequels to the original game. That is, of course, unconfirmed. We also do not know yet if this is a trailer, a speech, a presentation, or something else entirely.
It’s been a long time since Lara Croft has been in the spotlight, so fans will likely be eagerly waiting for the reveal on Thursday night.
The Game Awards are set to kick off on Thursday, December 11, at 7:30 p.m. EST and can be watched via the event’s official YouTube or Twitch channels.
