Actor and comedian Andy Dick has suffered an “apparent overdose,” according to TMZ, but he was able to speak to the entertainment site and say he was “okay.”
TMZ published a series of disturbing photos on December 9 that the site says show Dick slumped on the street in a troubling scene. According to TMZ, the Los Angeles Fire Department responded to the scene, and Narcan was administered to Dick. However, Dick subsequently told TMZ that “he’s alive and relieved he’s okay, but he wouldn’t elaborate on what happened,” the site reported, adding that the photos showed Dick “slumped over on cement stairs outside a building in Hollywood in broad daylight.”
The Los Angeles Fire Department Confirmed That the Agency Responded ‘for an Overdose’
The Fire Department did not name Dick but told TMZ that the agency “responded to the location for an overdose involving a 59-year-old man,” who was not taken to the hospital. Dick is 59.

Naloxone “is a medicine that rapidly reverses an opioid overdose. It is an opioid antagonist. This means that it attaches to opioid receptors and reverses and blocks the effects of other opioids. Naloxone can quickly restore normal breathing to a person if their breathing has slowed or stopped because of an opioid overdose,” the National Institute on Drug Abuse says.
The site adds: “Naloxone should be given to any person who shows signs of an opioid overdose or when an overdose is suspected. Naloxone can be given as a nasal spray or it can be injected into the muscle, under the skin, or into the veins.”
Dick last posted on his Instagram page in November. His page contains no reference to the alleged overdose.
Andy Dick Has Had a Series of Substance Abuse & Legal Issues Throughout His Life
Dick has had many struggles in his life, with both substance abuse and legal problems. In 2023, The Los Angeles Times reported that the actor/comedian was arrested in Lake Elsinore “for public intoxication and failing to register as a sex offender.”
Authorities were sent to a tavern for “a report of an intoxicated individual who may have been under the influence of drugs,” the site reported. According to The Times, the sex offender registration was required after Dick was found guilty by a jury of “groping an Uber driver’s genitals in West Hollywood in 2018.”
The NewsRadio actor “has a decades-long history of arrests, many of them involving public drunkenness and assault allegations,” The Times reported.
In 2008, People reported that Dick was arrested “outside a bar in Murrieta, Calif., on drug and sexual battery charges after he allegedly lifted a 17-year-old girl’s top in the parking lot.” At the time, he was 42 years old and described as “extremely intoxicated,” People reported.
Fans have praised Dick’s comedic genius despite his travails. “Andy Dick is one of the most underrated American comedians. He’s devolved into a punchline these days, but his work will forever shine on like a crazy diamond,” an X user wrote.
